23 English eng Zeitlin, Michael Contributor <p data-start="610" data-end="925">The article re-examines <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline" style="">The Sound and the Fury</span> through the lens of <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline" style="">Sigmund Freud</span>’s psychoanalytic theory. It argues that returning to Freud allows for a deeper understanding of the novel’s complex narrative structure and its representation of subjectivity, memory, and trauma. Focusing on key characters—especially Benjy, Quentin, and Jason—the essay interprets their perspectives as expressions of unconscious desires, repression, and psychic conflict. The fragmented narrative and disordered temporality are read as formal reflections of psychological disturbance and the breakdown of coherent identity. The article also revisits Freudian concepts such as <span data-start="1309" data-end="1370" style="">the unconscious, repression, trauma, and Oedipal dynamics</span>, showing how they illuminate themes of family, sexuality, and loss in the Compson household.
