Satire, Minstrelsy, and Embodiment in "Sheppard Lee"

The article analyzes how Robert Montgomery Bird's novel Sheppard Lee combines satire, blackface minstrelsy, and theories of embodiment to explore questions of race, identity, and the relationship between mind and body in nineteenth-century America.
