Special Section: Performance Studies in the Early Americas

This special section introduces the application of Performance Studies to the study of the early Americas. Rather than treating literature, history, and culture as primarily textual phenomena, the contributors examine how identity, power, race, gender, religion, and politics were enacted through performances, rituals, bodily practices, and public spectacles.
